So the first thing I thought of when I swatched Petal Power is the iconic NARS blush in Orgasm. And since theBalm’s Hot Mama is supposed to be a dupe for NARS Orgasm, I thought I may as well test it out against this new limited edition blush from MAC.
Here are the three blushes. They’re not all from the same photo (obviously) because I forgot to take that picture, and I wanted to get this post up before the end of the night.
So how well would they work as dupes?
If you start out purely by looking at the photos of the pans side by side, you’ll notice one major difference between all of them. The color of the product is different between all of them. None of them actually look the same inside the pan. If you were looking at Petal Power, you wouldn’t think “AH-HA! That is most definitely a dupe!” You would think that they’re all different blushes.
I honestly didn’t think “dupe!” until I swatched Petal Power. Once swatched, all I could think about is NARS Orgasm. The first thing to note, when I was swatching the three colors on my arm, I definitely had to work harder to get the appropriate amount of pigmentation built up for NARS, and I honestly think that’s a selling point for Orgasm. You usually don’t want that pinky-peach shimmer slapped onto your face. Anyways, here are the swatches side by side:
Petal Power is NOT a dupe for Orgasm. I do think, however, that Petal Power and Hot Mama are pretty similar. In fact, I would venture to call them a dupe, with Petal Power having a slight bit more pink. If you can find theBalm on sale via Hautelook (or their flash sale tomorrow!), and you don’t want to pay the full price ($25) for Petal Power, I think it’s a fantastic option. I don’t think that either of them are dupes for NARS Orgasm. I can see how they’re similar, but they’re not dupes. The shimmer is different between them, and the color is just not the same either.
