Empties #2: January 2014

Time for another empties post! It seems this month was the month of working through some skincare and hair care, so unfortunately I don’t have many makeup empties.

Origins Night-A-Mins Oil Free Moisturizer / My night time moisturizer since it came out sometime in 2013. I really love this stuff, but it also doesn’t help with any flakey skin from acne. Smells like citrus with a gel like consistency, but is definitely a lot lighter than it’s oiled counterpart. / Price: $39.50 for 1.7 oz / Repurchase? Yes, in the future.

Origins Purifying Tonic / This was their organic toner that was introduced in 2012. It has since been discontinued, but I did notice a difference in my blackheads when I was using it. / Price: Unknown / Repurchase? Can’t! Otherwise I would.

Shiseido Pureness Deep Cleansing Foam / A little goes a long way with this cleaner. It removes your face makeup, but I wouldn’t put it anywhere near your eyes since it burns. Just add a touch of water for some foaming action. / Price: Typically $22, but you can find the same size at Marshalls for $7.99 sometimes. / Repurchase? I bought 3 the last time I was there, so I’m down to 2.

Origins Modern Friction / This is one of the things that every Origins sales associate will push on you. I don’t really like it for my face, but it does wonders exfoliating other parts of your skin (like your legs after shaving, but that’s a really expensive way to go). / Price: $39.50 for 4.2 oz / Repurchase? Probably not.

REN Micropolish Cleanser / I’m slowly but surely getting through the Fab 4 Kit I bought in November or December. I really liked this scrub, but the exfoliating bits are a bit sharp. Sensitive skin, beware! / Price (full size): $30 for 3.3 oz / Repurchase? Maybe.

Benta Berry G-1 Exfoliating Facial Cleanser / This was a pointless Birchbox scrub. Hated it. Used the entire sample (maybe 3 uses) and still hated. / Price (full size): $16 for 30 mL / Repurchase? No.

Olay Clean & Mild Makeup Remover Cloths / Kept these in my car for makeup removal after work. They did the job, though I often needed more than one to get all my foundation off. The cloths were relatively soft, but I purchased the Neutrogena wipes in bulk (hello, Costco) so I won’t be purchasing wipes for a while. / Price: $4.99 / Repurchase? No.

Bath & Body

St. Ives Exfoliating Body Scrub / Feels like a sugar scrub even though it’s labelled as a sea salt scrub and doesn’t really lather. My skin did feel smoother where it actually exfoliated though. / Price: $3.99 for 24 fl oz. / Repurchase? Probably not, going through some Victoria’s Secret scrubs I have.

Whish Body Butter – Orange Cream / I hate hate hate food or sweet smells. I like florals or clean laundry smells. I hated the smell of this lotion, which I got from a Hautelook bag, so I won’t be repurchasing. / Price (full size): $54 for 34 oz. / Repurchase? No.

Handmaid Yuzu Lotion / This didn’t do anything for me. It didn’t smell especially pleasing, but it wasn’t offensive either. I expected smooth silky hands, and didn’t really experience that. / Price (full size): $10 for 3 oz / Repurchase? No.

Bumble & Bumble Surf Shampoo & Conditioner / This was my second bottle of both the shampoo and conditioner. I like the smell, but I don’t think it adds those beachy waves it touts. My hair is stick straight though (except for one girl in the front and a super frizz on the side. It’s also a little bit drying for your scalp, but if you have a very sensitive scalp (as in it gets oily way to quickly for your liking), I would give this a shot. / Price: Shampoo – $24 for 8.5 oz / Conditioner – $26 for 8.5 oz / Repurchase? Maybe.

Dove Volume Boost Shampoo / When I used this with the Dove Volume Boost Conditioner, it was way too much for my scalp to handle. I would use it at night and by the morning, my hair would be super greasy. By itself, with a conditioner that’s pretty light, it works perfectly fine, though I’m not sure if it actually provides much in the way of additional volume. / Price: $4.98 for 25.4 fl oz. / Repurchase? No.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioner / Ugh. I just went over this in my Ipsy review, and after I finished it, my opinions remain the same. / Price (full size): $26 for 5.25 oz / Repurchase? No.

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray / When I had long hair and layers, I really wanted to try this. It didn’t do much for my hair except make my air drying a little less frizzy. I wouldn’t repurchase this until I add some texture to my hair. Plus there are so many tutorials on how to make your own. / Price: $15 for 1.7 oz / Repurchase? Not right now.

Bumble & Bumble BB Prep / I quite liked this one. I’m not sure if it actually helped with preventing damage, but I liked the smell and didn’t mind adding it in my hair routine. / Price: $6 for 2 oz / Repurchase? Not right now, I have to get through my other primers.

Bumble & Bumble BB Straight (Sample) / This worked for me. I already have straight hair, but it helped prevent the flipping that naturally occurs when your hair is cut at shoulder length. I would definitely repurchase this, but fortunately I have another sample this size! Surprisingly, this sample lasted about 6 uses, but that’s probably due to the fact that my hair is short. / Price (full size): $29 for 5 oz / Repurchase? Yes, in the future.

YSL Babydoll Mascara / This was recommended to me by a sales associate at Sephora. I, unlike many beauty bloggers out there, really hated this mascara. It felt so luxurious though, that I kep using it in an attempt to like it. It does add volume, but it smudges. At the price point, you would expect that it wouldn’t smudge. / Price: $30 for 0.2 oz / Repurchase? No.

Up & Up Nail Polish Remover – Nourishing (Repurchased) / I’m not very fancy when it comes to nail polish remover, or a nail polish top coat. I use Up & Up for the remover, and Sally Hansen when it comes to a top/base coat. It does it’s job though, and I’ve already repurchased it. / Price: $1 / Repurchase: No.

Urgh, I had a YSL lady put the Babydoll on me, and it smudges like crazy on me too! That’s ridiculously disappointing for a high-end brand with a high price point.
