As one part of the new Spring 2014 NARS collection, Kauai is definitely something that stands out. It’s now part of their permanent line which is fantastic for anyone who isn’t spending money right now.
If you look at the swatches above, that’s one swipe with no primer. That just speaks volumes to the pigmentation of this duo. The colors are true to pan without having to build up the color, and they blend easily. The shadow is soft and buttery; if you own anything from the Guy Bourdin collection from last fall, then you’ll know the feel of these shadows. It feels like it’ll just melt under the heat from your fingers.
There is only one bad thing I can think of about this duo — the glitter. There is so much glitter that you’ll have to be careful about getting it in your eyes. When I was applying the gold, some of it flaked into my eyes and they started burning like crazy. Because there’s glitter, you can definitely expect some fall out. I would apply my foundation and concealer before using this shadow, because you’re going to have some gold glitter all around your face.
Just a PSA for anyone who wants to purchase this, Sephora has upped the prices to $35 from the $34 price tag it had last week. If you want to get it at the NARS website, it’s still $34. Nordstrom also still has it at $34. I’m not sure if all the prices are going to go up a dollar, but if you’re interested in purchasing it, you might want to look into getting it at other places than Sephora. It’s currently sold out online at narscosmetics.com
